Saluting the Marine Corps Who Keep Our Country Safe
“A Marine is a Marine. I set that policy two weeks ago – there’s no such thing as a former Marine. You’re a Marine, just in a different uniform and you’re in a different phase of your life. But you’ll always be a Marine because you went to Parris Island, San Diego or the hills of Quantico. There’s no such thing as a former Marine.”
–General James F. Amos, 35th Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps
On November 10th, Marine Corps Day, Arwood Waste extends a special thank you to the men and women of the United States Marine Corps who are diligently protecting us and maintaining our freedom by air, land and sea. We appreciate all that you and your families sacrifice to keep us safe.

Waste Services Alert | Hurricane Matthew Impact & Safety Reminders
We Apologize For Any Delays While We Restore Service
Arwood Waste, AW Waste Management and our partner waste companies in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are hard at work to restore waste services to the affected areas in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. With widespread damage across large parts of 4 states, we understand that residents of these areas will have increased needs for debris cleanup in the coming weeks and we are working tirelessly to meet those needs.
Call Us At (888) 413-5105 If You Have Service Questions or Additional Waste Needs During This Cleanup Process
With our headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida, our staff takes the cleanup challenges you might be facing personally. As local landfills re-open and diesel fuel becomes available again in the Southeast U.S., we will continue working to restore scheduled waste services and meet the increased demand for debris cleanup in these areas.
Post Storm Clean Up Tips & Safety Reminders
As you clean up your home or business following this storm remember these debris clean up tips and safety reminders to keep you and your family out of harm’s way:
- Do not drive through flooded areas. Turn around, don’t drown!
- As you clean yard debris, watch out for falling items such as branches or trees limbs.
- Do not block roads or streets with waste and debris piles.
- Separate yard debris from household or structural debris piles for waste pickup.
- Consider hiring a demolition company such as Dependable Demolition for professional demolition debris clean up services.
- If possible, cut large trees and pieces of debris in to 4 foot segments. Note: It may take several trips for all debris to be removed.
- As flood waters recede watch out for snakes and other dangerous animals.
- Check for structural damage and watch out for falling drywall.
- If you need to use a generator, make sure it is outside and well ventilated to prevent the buildup of deadly fumes.

World Space Week 2016 | Even Space Needs a Garbage Man
Happy World Space Week
Next week is the official, United Nation’s declared, World Space Week. Every year during this week, the world comes together to celebrate space innovation and technological developments leading to a better society. National Garbage Man Day wants to remind you that the need for garbage collection is not just an Earthly problem!
Space Waste Solutions
Through partner initiatives like Space Waste Solutions, we are working to find innovative ways of dealing with trash, even in outer space! Every technological advance into space exploration has left a growing problem orbiting our planet. The need for the garbage man goes beyond our atmosphere.
The Problem of Orbiting Space Trash
Did you know that right now there are more than 750,000 pieces of space debris orbiting the Earth at over 15,000 mph? It’s true. The results of the space race along with government and private industry launches of countless satellites have produced a growing problem in need of innovative solutions. This space junk poses a threat to those on Earth, as it often falls back into the atmosphere containing toxic chemicals, as well as to current and future space missions due to the increasing potential for impacts with space craft.
Now is the Time for Action
What better time to harness our ingenuity and creativity to develop solutions for this expanding issue then now. As the world turns it’s eyes to the heavens this week, we must also start working towards solutions to keep them free and clean. Ideas and inventions like the Solar Space Waste Incineration System will mark a way forward but we have to start now.
Find an Event and Learn
Join National Garbage Man Day in celebrating World Space Week by finding an event near you. Also, check out these great resources for educators and parents to teach about World Space Week in the classroom and at home.
Like Space Waste Solutions on Facebook to learn more and connect with others about solving the problem of orbiting space trash.

Welcome To Autumn! 3 Ways to Change with the Season
Autumn is here and it’s a time of change. Whether you’re in a part of the country that’s sunny and warm year-round or a place where you experience the beautiful leaf colors that Autumn brings, change is in the air.
The idea of “Spring Cleaning” doesn’t have to be just for Spring! Use this opportunity of changing seasons to re-organize and get prepared for winter. Here are three ways to do just that:
1. Clean out your closets.
…and your drawers, and anywhere else you may have old items lurking around. Donate any clothes that you haven’t worn in a year. Change out the summer clothes to prepare for the weather change. Consider having a “clothing swap” where friends and neighbors can get together and find “new” items while getting rid of the ones they don’t want or need anymore.
2. Get your priorities set.
A change in season is the perfect time to re-evaluate your priorities. Has there been something on your mental to-do list that still isn’t done? Write down your goals. What things have to get done and what things do you simply want to get done? Use this time to plan how you will spend your time and evaluate what things may not be as important as you once thought they were.
3. Go outside!
Now is the time for “Fall clean up” in your yard. Stay on top of that yard work so you don’t have extra to do next Spring. Keep your driveway and curbs clear of leaves and other fallen debris. Enjoy the weather! If you’ll be expecting a snowy winter, now’s the time to get the last minute “outdoor time” before the cold sets in.
Remember to say thank you to your garbage workers who will be picking up all that yard waste and house waste from your cleaning efforts.
From all of us at National Garbage Man Day, have a great Autumn!
